New Year, New Me or Nah?

Now that it is the New Year ( and I am like the worse “blogger” person ever for not posting in almost a month) I figured I needed to return with something strong and empowering and what not.

Well I been trying to think of something, and it wasn’t working. I am literally just letting my fingers move so I hope something good comes out.

Most people make New Year’s resolutions, but by the time Mardi Gras rolls around, those life changing proclamations they JUST MADE are out the window. But why?

I can’t answer for everyone but I think the reason boils down to two possible answers.

 1. You are a punk.

A harsh reality, but this one usually stands true. Now, when I say “punk” I don’t mean it in the sense of someone being lame or all around ass-holeish, I mean it as being scared. Everyday we face decisions and situations that make us apprehensive. Fear is a normal emotion that often dictates a lot of our lives. Fortunately, that can be changed!

Realizing you are afraid to stick to that work out, change your diet, dump that douche, or move to a new city is the first step in actually doing it. Some like to pretend that if you ignore fear, it will go away. These are the same people who believe in Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny, and that Beyoncé didn’t carry Blue Ivy.

My sister constantly reminds me to let my faith overcome my fear.  Decreasing your fear comes from increasing your faith. Trusting that what is meant to be will be, will open up so many doors that we have all been afraid to even knock on.

2. You are lazy.

I cannot even sit here and tell you that I am not lazy sometimes. Actually most of the time. It is so much easier to make plans and paint the picture of what you want to happen in your head than actually doing it. I wish I knew why.

This blog is one of the many ways I am trying to demolish my naturally lazy habits. (But ya’ll need to hold me accountable, CUH-LEAR-LY I could use the help.)

Accountability partners can help to combat being lazy. Having someone who is there to motivate and encourage you is helpful when you have gotten use to ignoring your own conscious. A good friend, family member, or bae can all serve as great accountability partners. That can go for any goal, not just physical fitness like most assume.

Also, writing out your goals might help you not be so lazy. Maybe hanging them up or creating a vision board that you can look at every day as a constant reminder can force new habits.

I read in multiple posts I saw on Facebook (so it must be true right?) that writing down your goals increase the likely hood that they will come true.

Being a journalist, I fact checked it and it seems to be legit. Gail Matthews at Dominican University did a study which found that those who wrote down their goals accomplished significantly more than those who did not write down their goals. (Read more here.)

Aint that some ish? This woman is telling me that if I take the time to write out what I want to happen, I’m already increasing my chances?

Well here they are. My 2016 goals for all the world to see and all of you to be my accountability partners 🙂

  1. Relocate to a city in which I haven’t lived before.
  2. Start a new job that is specifically in my field.
  3. Get 1000 views on my blog in one month (A girl can dream)
  4. Enlist @FitnessDani to help me reach my goal weight and size.
  5. Grow my hair to 3 inches
  6. Travel to two new places
  7. Post on my blog AT LEAST once a week.
  8. Join a community service organization
  9. Write a children’s book
  10. and last but not least, find a new church home and rededicate my life. *Cues Music*

 Habakkuk 2:2-3

Then the Lord answered me and said:

“Write the vision
And make it plain on tablets,
That he may run who reads it.
For the vision is yet for an appointed time;
But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie.
Though it tarries, wait for it;
Because it will surely come,
It will not tarry.”
